MONOLOQ'S GUIDE TO
HANDWASH
Add a few drops of either mild detergent, hand soap or baby shampoo to basin of tap water. Gently swirl garment around. Do not soak. Hang garment flat to dry. Iron inside out. To preserve the integrity of the design, we recommend you dry clean.
MACHINE WASH
Machine wash at cold setting or hand-wash. Place garment in a mesh bag to help prevent snagging or twisting during machine cycles. To dry, lay flat on a drying rack or hang to air dry, do not tumble dry as heat from tumble dryers can cause it to shrink. This also saves energy. Only wash with similar colours.
DRY CLEAN
Dry clean only. To preserve the integrity of the design. Most garments that are lined should be dry cleaned, however, airing the garment after a day’s wear will suffice. Depending on how stained it is, send for dry cleaning after 4-5 wears, or use damp cloth to wipe stain or dirt off.
GARMENT CARE
- Harvested from cotton plant bolls; fibres are ginned, spun and woven into fabric.Soft, breathable and naturally absorbent; a wardrobe staple.Moderately eco-friendly; biodegradable but water-intensive — choose organic where possible.
- Derived from the flax plant; stalks are retted, scutched and spun into yarn.Lightweight, strong and gets softer with every wash.Highly eco-friendly; biodegradable, compostable and low-impact to grow.
- Natural protein fibre reeled from silkworm cocoons; woven into a fine, lustrous cloth.Temperature-regulating, delicate to the touch and naturally strong.Mostly eco-friendly; biodegradable with minimal processing but raises silkworm ethics.
- Shorn from sheep; fibres are cleaned, combed and spun; merino from finer-fleeced breeds.Naturally insulating, odour-resistant and moisture-wickingModerately eco-friendly; biodegradable but livestock emissions are a consideration.
- Semi-synthetic; wood pulp is dissolved and extruded into fibre through a chemical process.Soft, fluid and breathable; affordable alternative to silk.Use mindfully; technically biodegradable but chemical-heavy — opt for certified viscose.
- Made from beech tree pulp; a refined type of rayon with a finer, more stable fibre structure.Exceptionally soft, lightweight and resistant to shrinkage.Moderately friendly; biodegradable when responsibly sourced — look for LENZING™ certified.
- Wood pulp processed through a closed-loop system that recaptures 99% of water and solvent.Silky smooth, breathable and biodegradable; a considered fabric choice.Highly eco-friendly; one of the most responsibly produced fibres available.
- Synthetic fibre derived from petroleum-based polymers; extruded and woven or knitted.Durable, wrinkle-resistant and colourfast; often blended with natural fibres.Least eco-friendly; non-biodegradable and sheds microplastics — rPET is a better alternative.
- Synthetic polyurethane polymer produced through chemical extrusion; rarely used alone.Adds stretch and shape recovery to any fabric blendLeast eco-friendly; non-biodegradable and difficult to recycle in blended constructions.
